Finally Found The Best Accessory for Puffs - Pantyhose!

For the longest time, I've been struggling to get my puff to look sleek and tidy without whatever accessory I'm using, poking out from under the puff.

Recently, I was watching a YouTube video ( I forget which one now) and the lady there spoke of how she uses pantyhose to get her hair up in a puff and I thought - why not?

So on my last trip out of the country, I went into Primark (cheap and cheerful) and bought a pack of 5 for 3pounds (you truly can't get better than that lol), came back and went to work. I got a pair of scissors, and cut one right up the middle - giving me 2 strips; cut off the thicker top and proceeded to tie my hair up with it and was profoundly pleased!!

My hair had been in my customary twists overnight (When I have my hair out, I usually have it in 10 or so twists at night to keep my hair from getting all matted) and all I did was unravel the twists, separate each one, fluff it at the top, brush the sides and then with the cut up pantyhose in the back of my head, crossed it in front, gently pulling it up while tightening my hold till I got to my desired spot. Then I took it round to the back again and tied it in front.

I then arranged the puff around the pantyhose and voila! A gorgeous puff if I may say so myself! :)

This is such an easy and beautiful style that can be achieved under 10 minutes, can transition from day to night and is perfect for those bad hair days - not to mention, the added advantage of a 'Croydon Face lift' as the effect of sleeking and pulling up the hair gives an instant lift to your eyes and face ( go easy on how tight you make your puff though so you don't end up with thinning edges in the long run). You can also add a bit of edge control to the edges to give it an even sleeker look.

I shall be rocking this style well!

  3. yes! i have been using panty hose for my puff since my hair could get into one. my hair dont care for head bands or those elastic thingys, they cant handle the density.

  4. Oooooh sounds like you have a lot of hair Nikki! Yea, the headbands didn't work for me either - it's pantyhose all the way now!

  5. This is my fourth year natural and my hair just refused to grow beyond a particular length....well it's growing but with the fine texture and tight curl pattern combined, it ends up looking short. I have always wanted to try out these types of puffs, but can only do d half way puff if I want to get a "full" look. Ok done with the rambling. Lol. Your hair is gorgeous by the way...wish your salon was in PH

    1. Aww! Thanks for the compliment dear. You could employ a few techniques to stretch out your hair so it doesn't look short all the time. Like plaiting dry hair at night using a bit of shea butter to stretch it out more then in the morning you can just use your fingers to fluff.

Or if you can thread it for a few hours to stretch it first then plait it - you could definitely get a fuller looking puff! I know someone who's about to open up a natural hair salon in PH so I could get the details and send to you!

    2. I live in PH too and I wish Kemi's salon was here. For my hair journey, I've made a commitment to visit KL's Naturals every two months. While in lagos, visited her salon and I had a great experience. Great job Kemi, I'm even more inspired to go on with my natural hair journey. Thanks.

  6. I would really love to pop in but I'm scared of your prices... LOL

Can I ask though, say I came in to take out a weave, steam and do a protective style (eg kinky twists), will you take the time to detangle my hair. Mind my hair is thickness defined. This part really frustrates me in salons, and having to do it myself means I cant come into the salon to take out one style and leave with another.

    1. lol! There's nothing to be scared of I promise. We ALWAYS take time to detangle hair - it's an integral part of the service we offer. Come on down! We'll be gentle on your hair and your purse :)
