Blowouts, Big Hair and My Twisted Updo Using Braiding Hair!

I had planned on going the whole nine yards with straightening my hair (blow dryer and flat iron) so I could do a proper length check but by the time I'd done a blow out with the hand dryer, I was too tired to be bothered with a flat iron to straighten it further, so I just made do with the semi straightening the blow dryer gave.

In preparation for my my blow out, I pre poo'd over night with my Vatika coconut oil, and in the morning shampooed with the Design Essentials Curl Cleanser, Deep conditioned with the Keratin Deep Conditioning Mask from Shea Radiance ( my hair had been in my last style for 2 weeks so I felt the need for a strengthening deep condition).  Applied my leave in (Kinky Curly Knot Today) and let it air dry for about half an hour then applied  my heat protectant and straightening serum ( IC Fantasia Hair Polisher and Heat Protectant).

I then blow dried on low speed medium heat with a paddle brush and the above picture is the result! As much as I'd hoped to carry the 'big hair' hair look for a while, the impossible humidity made it all shrivel up in a couple of hours!

For sheen and shine, I used the Jamaican Black Castor Oil Serum with Argan Oil as a finishing oil  ( I've heard good things about this serum so I recently bought it and am trying it out)

I know I probably need to pull the hair a little to get an accurate length but I'll wait till my 2 year big chop anniversary coming up in May next year, before I do a proper check - measurements and all!

I didn't feel like twisting or braiding my hair so decided to try out a style I've been meaning to do, using regular braiding hair (Expressions) and a handful of pins.

It took about half an hour to 45 minutes to style - mainly because I'd laid down my edges with Eco Styler Gel and tied a scarf for about 20 minutes so it could 'set' for that sleek edged look.

I used 2 packs of hair (color 2) and while the look I was going for was one with chunkier twists and fewer layers, I was still pleased with the results!!

What do you think?

    1. Thank you!. I'm not very good with keeping styles for long :) I took it down that night and re did it in the morning for church. You can easily carry this for at least a week - tying a scarf at night to keep it down. Since it's done with pins, it's easy to 'manipulate'. I've had a few customers come in and requested for it to be sewn in though - this would last longer but it tends to alter the shape of the style a little.
