Crochet braids and this lovely dress I fell in love with and had to share :) |
So remember I'd told you in my last post that I had a story to tell about my crochet braids? I shall be telling it today but first of all a quick length check.
So this was my check back in February:
And this is my length check from September
I'd had a trim in April so I think overall, I've been pretty good with my regimen and retaining length too.
At the end of the year, I may stretch my hair and (gasp) flat iron it and then get another trim. Looking forward to what my overall health and length retention will be like then.
Back to my crochet story. So I was travelling for a bit and needed to put my hair away as I'd had it out for about a week. On a whim I bought some hair at my local supermarket, deciding I wanted to go for a big blown out afro look. I had it crocheted in and it was looking quite BIG lol.
Now I like big hair but this didn't look right so I decided to trim. Thing is, the more I trimmed, the more I hated it to the point I knew there was no way I was going to keep it. I had really high hopes for the hair oh. I had visions of a soft Afro framing my face but instead looked like a mad person lol. Ah well, that will teach me to buy hair I know nothing about on w whim.
I had to go out to run some errands so thankfully I remembered I had these head wraps/bands and threw one on, ran my errands, came back home and got a pair of scissors. The hair was coming OFF!
The hair was so horrid I didn't even bother taking a picture of it without the wrap |
Now I was travelling early the following morning, hadn't packed, still had some work to finish and here I was with my hair a mess. I had no desire to wear a wig so had to think of something fast.
Then I remembered I had some pre twisted crochet hair by Freetress that someone had bought for me from the States and even though I didn't really want a 'braided' look, it was going to have to do.

Hair that I had lying around |
My hair was still in cornrows from the crochet I'd just removed so I sat down, got my crochet needle and got to crocheting. In about 40 mins I was done and it was actually quite nice.
I don't wear it down often but in a high pony tail, with the ends tucked in ( practical for work and the heat) and it's gotten a lot of compliments. I didn't think I'd like it so much but now it's been 3 weeks now and it's not going anywhere :)
Ooooh, I like your crochet twists! Very nice.

ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
DeleteGreat job retaining your length! I did a blow out two months ago and am now seeing the split ends and knots. :( Thankfully I see growth too, but I need to do a trim real fast to get this situation under control!! It's funny how you're not into the braids look, but when you do it, you kinda remember how good it feels and looks on you - like back in the old days. Lol. That's how I feel sometimes.
ReplyDeleteThe way you started the story, I was expecting a hair scandal, lol. I'm glad to know it was nothing serious.

These pre twisted or plaited braids are the bomb. Just 40 minutes for this whole look. You won..lol
