Check Out These Wigs And New Styles I've been Rocking!

At the Beauty Africa Exhibition

So! I've been trying to enjoy my hair a bit more without manipulating too much. What that translated to was me wearing out my hair a few times in my go to rolled updos, then I experimented with twists (which I'm not very crazy about lol) and lastly, a few wigs for colour, volume and to make it more interesting.
Just taken down my crochet braids, and doused my hair in oil lol. You can actually see the streaks of oil in my hair

Also because I've been working out quite a bit, I want to be able to co wash or rinse more often without having to be worried about the extensions on my hair. Speaking of which! I had twists done a few weeks ago - co washed with the ManeChoice 3 in 1 conditioner and then deep conditioned with their restorative mask.

Hair Not Retaining Length? A Few Tips To Help.

Source: Thirstyroots.com

I have spoken about this a few times in the past but it always helps to re iterate.

The most recurring complaint I get when I speak to naturals is 'My hair is not growing'!!! or 'My hair has stopped growing'! And I always say, barring any medical conditions or medication that may truly be stopping your hair from growing; hair is ALWAYS growing. HOWEVER, if your hair is breaking off at the ends at the same (or faster) rate at which it is growing, then it is only logical that it remains at the same length and feeds your belief that your hair is not growing or has stopped growing.

The ends are the oldest and most fragile part of the hair and so need the most (and gentlest) attention. If you treat them right, they don't break off and sabotage your length retention goals. If also you invest a ton of money in hair growth products or vitamins, you will be wasting that money because hair grows from the roots but breaks off at the ends. So if you're increasing your growth at the roots but you neglect the ends, you'll still end up at the same place you started!

Loving My Outre 'Tess' Wig !

So this year has been all about protective styling using wigs. It's been so convenient for me as I'm able to wash and condition my hair regularly and moisturize effectively every day. During one of my Instagram haunts :) I came upon this lovely looking wig being worn and reviewed by a lady who goes by the name @naturalbelle and I was smitten!

Since I was in the UK for a couple of weeks, I decided to order it from Afrostyling.com and give it a go. It's an Outre wig called 'Tess' and has the texture of a Yaki Straight weave. Totally soft, full lace front and has an 'L' shaped part which I think is really different and quite nice.

Working And Having A Blast At The Wed Expo!!

My models for Friday (extreme left) Omozo of O Naturals and her models, Tuke Morgan and moi :)

So, I decided to take KL's to the Wed Expo this year - and I'm glad I did! It was my first time attending and participating and it was definitely something to see.

Easy, Breezy, Beautiful - The KL's Natural Chic!!

I've always loved that tag line from Cover Girl cosmetics - Easy, Breezy, Beautiful: makes you think of something effortless, sweet and charming. Lately we started creating quick, easy styles that were still eye catching, and I think this tagline goes perfectly!

So here are a few of my creations from the last couple of weeks - natural hair can NEVER be boring - all you need to do is get some moisturizer, butter, pins and your fingers!!

The first is what I like to call a triple treat!! This will definitely get heads turning and tongues wagging!

Bridal Styling With A Wig!!

So my last bride in December - Sola; made a suggestion for styling her hair on her big day - why not use a wig? I'd definitely never done it before and I thought - why not? So she got herself a HeatFreeHair 'For Koils' U - Part wig and left the rest to me.

I'm sure you must have 'heard' me talk about Heat Free Hair a number of times - I really love the quality of their hair! This texture in it's natural state is has really cute tiny curls that are oh so soft!!

Blow Dried Straight

The 'U' Part

In order to get it to the look I'd planned for her, I washed it, blow dried it straight and then using my curl wand, gave it these deliciously bouncy curls.

Beauty Africa Expo - 3 Days, 3 Hair Styles, My Way!

I've been feeling so bleh lately - not sure what exactly's been going on with me. Hopefully I'll snap out of it soon.  Anyway, still on the Beauty Africa Exhibition, I was so busy working at the stand, I didn't really have time to go round and take pictures the way I did last year - but what I did was I wear my hair in different styles for those days so will be showing you those styles today!

I've been protective styling a lot in the last 6 months and haven't really had a chance to enjoy my hair or wear it out so I decided that for each of  the 3 days of the exhibition , I was going to do something different.

My go to style - I now have to tuck the hair around the edges in  to give it a rounded look as my hair is longer and it kinda 'flops' when in a puff

Cinna - Puff of Life!

So I had this client come in last week saying she wanted to get a treatment, trim and then style her hair. She let out it was her birthday and wanted her hair pulled up into a puff and then styled into cinnabuns and I made sure to give her a great birthday look!

She's got thick hair and after her treatment, I blow dried her hair alternating between cool air and warm air.

Then trimmed it and pulled it up away from her face into a puff (I've recently found that in the absence of pantyhose, a strand of marley hair or kinky hair also does the same trick).

So!!! My Work Got Mentioned In The April Edition of UK Vogue!!!!!!!

Imagine a grown woman standing in the middle of a room, screaming and laughing and turning round and round till she gets incredibly dizzy - then she sits, looks around in wonderment and once the dizzy wave wears off, she repeats the same process. Well that grown ass woman was me!!!!! And what I hear you ask, was responsible for this unbecoming behaviour?

Welllllll! I had just discovered that I had been given credit in the April edition of UK Vogue for the styling work I did for Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

It's so incredibly amazing because I never even thought they'd do credits!!! Stella of Stella's addiction had called me to say she'd recommended me to Chimamanda to get her hair done for an interview she was doing for Vogue and would I be available?!! As if I wouldn't be! lol!!!!  I got the call, arrangements were made, and she came down to the salon  (she's an incredibly sweet and fun, person by the way) so we could do a treatment and discuss possible hair styles.

On the day of the interview, I got to hers after I'd tossed and turned almost all night trying to figure out in my head what we were going to do, how she would like it, and the million ways I could mess up this opportunity.

I finally got myself together and got to hers, and we commenced styling. She's a woman who definitely knows what she doesn't want and what exactly she wants but thankfully we were able to agree on the final look.   She's also an incredibly private individual so we had to respect that and not go all crazy taking selfies to post on instagram and all of social media (because you know you'd have seen a trillion pictures of me with her by now lol)
