My Warri, Delta State Trip, Courtesy Pam Hairitage!!

Ah! So I have this customer Pamela, who lives in Warri, Delta State and anytime she's in Lagos, she always makes it a point to come down to the salon to have her hair pampered. She called me a few months ago saying she really wanted to start bringing the naturalistas in Warri together and was thinking of hosting a Natural Hair Themed event and asked if I'd be willing to come down to support. Of course I said I would love to!

So, July 16th was set as the D Day and everything was planned and organized. My flight was due to leave at 7.40am on Friday the 15th so I got up bright and early, had a cab drop me off at the airport and joined the long Arik queue for check in. 7.30, 8.30, 9.30, 10.00 - No boarding call!!! All I could think of was those extra hours I could have been sleeping in my bed! Finally at about 10.30 we started boarding amid the usual 'we're sorry for the delay blah blah'.

Landed safely in Warri and I had a driver waiting for me to take me to my hotel. Got in the hotel, threw off my clothes, ordered some food and then slept!! I mean this was Friday, one of my busiest days of the week and I get to be in a hotel room with no heads of hair to wash or customers to attend to! Instead it was Room service and T.V? And a big, soft bed?? Aaah! It was heaven! loll As much as I love what I do, it was a good feeling to just lounge and sleep in the middle of the day.

Anyway, the following day dawned bright and early, and my assigned driver came to get me and dropped me off at the venue. I have to give it to Warri Naturalistas - they were on time!! Event was due to hold at 12 noon and we already had people seated by past 11.

Pamela of Pam Hairitage

Pamela did her thing and I came up and did what I love doing - talk about Natural hair :)
Talk time :)

It was definitely a fun session - talking with the audience, giving them tips and helping them shed light on a few issues that weren't totally clear. I always like to start sessions like these with questions to get a feel of what people do and know and one thing I always notice is that a lot of people don't have regimens they are consistent with.

*Tip - A consistent simple regimen will take you very far in achieving your healthy hair goals.

Voila Signatures talking makeup. She was so kind as to gift me the Maybelline Colossal Eyelash Mascara!!!

Design Essentials had been gracious enough to sponsor by giving a few freebies away during a Question and Answer session - to the delight of the crowd.

2nd winner being styled

My first winner

The first 5 ladies at the event had also won free hair styling to be done by me and Pamela. The plan had been to do as many as I could and then head out to the airport for my flight which was due to leave at 5.30.
My new friends :)

PinkSky was on hand to offer 2 strand twists

I'm sure you must have guessed by now that Arik being who they are; there was going to be some drama.

I styled 3 heads and was on my 4th preparing to head out as soon as I was done, leaving Pamela to style the last lady. At this point, a call was made by Pamela's husband to his contact at the airport,to have someone assist me with my check in - only for him to be told that Arik had cancelled all out bound flights as a decision had been taken about a week before to stop Saturday flights!!

Mind you, my ticket had been booked and paid for about a month before this oh! And no one thought it necessary to send a message informing us of this very minute detail. Thankfully, my hosts just took me back to the hotel and re checked me in and made sure I would leave on the first flight out the following morning.

I just relaxed and enjoyed the rest of the show - meeting new people, taking loads of pictures and making friends. It was definitely fun!

I didn't have time to explore Warri (seeing as it was my first time and all) because of the length of the trip and the fact that it was a rainy weekend! Hopefully next time I go there, I'll be able to see more of the town and have fun!
