The New 'Texture Release' System By Avlon

Avlon Industries (makers of Keracare, Avlon and As I am hair ) recently launched their Texture Release application system in the market. This system is an amino acid based strengthening system which is thermally activated - much like a few others that are already on the market and which I've blogged about, here and here.

On the Avlon page, it says the Texture Release System:

'Is heat activated with amino acids and conditioning agents which goes deep into the hair's fibers to enable styling versatility. This allows the client to have optional textural change with increased combing manageability. This system was formulated for excessively curly hair that needs moisture and conditioners with special attention to the scalp'

You can read more here.

The main difference between this and most of the others ones that I've seen and used is that this system has a deep conditioning step which is missing from other brand's systems. This I really like because it is always advisable to get a deep condition before major heat is applied to your hair as this helps to reinforce the strands.

Now my model had transitioning hair and is not fully natural but we were still able to use the system and note the results on her new growth.

The system has 4 components:
- The Nourishing Cleansing Shampoo
- The Releasing Lotion (With Amla and Keratin)
- The Thermal Protecting Mist
- The Curl Shape and Shine Cream ( With hibiscus, phytonutrients and fruit extracts)

I also like the fact that they've incorporated some ayurvedic herbs (Amla and Hibiscus) into their system - y'all know I'm nuts for Ayurveda right? :)

They also have a component that can be used if you don't necessarily want to wear your hair bone straight (Curl Shape and Shine Cream) but just want to enhance the looser curl pattern that you get from the application of the system and  possibly wear a 'wash and go' look.

Finally, the system has peppermint oil in it which gives a nice stimulating experience to the client!

So the hair was shampooed  and then dried a little so when product is applied, it's not running down the face of the client. The Releasing lotion was then applied in sections to the hair and hair was wrapped and set under a steamer for 30 minutes for maximum penetration of the active ingredients.

Hair was then rinsed THOROUGHLY and then the thermal protecting mist was applied all over the hair. Hair was then blow dried and a flat iron was passed over small sections to further seal the treatment in. Now they advise that depending on how long you want the results to last (one month to two months) you pass the flat iron over the hair between 2 - 7 times.

Had this been a fully natural client who wanted to wear a curly look then after this flat iron process,  I would have to wet the hair again and then style using the Curl Shape and Shine Cream.

I shall be monitoring the client's hair over the course of the next 2 weeks to see what sort of results she gets overall - particularly as she has an active lifestyle.

  2. I saw this new range a few months ago. Their rep was quite convincing about it.

    1. Hi I'm in the UK and I've just had this treatment after 2 years of wearing wigs and weaves. It's amazing. My hair looks natural but is straight and manageable. It feels like it's been hotcombed. The hairdresser has said it can last updated to 6 months depending on growth etc. Plus it needs blowing out and straightening again after each wash to get the straightness back. It's definitely worth trying.
